Services
We provide:
Line Umpires
Line Umpires call the lines at officiated tennis matches and project a professional image to any tournament.
Chair Umpires
Chair Umpires ensure that the matches are played to tournament conditions and apply the rules of tennis. They also enforce the on court code of conduct. Importantly, they also announce the score to the players and spectators.
Court Supervisors
Primarily used to assist a Referee where there are no on Court Umpires and they may be assigned to watch several courts, providing a "roving eye" to assist with the player self umpired matches. They also mediate any player disputes within the rules of tennis and ensure players are reminded of the code of conduct as may be required.
Referees
Referees liaise with players and officials and apply tournament rules and regulations. They are the final authority on any question of tennis law for the tournament. Appointing a Referee demonstrates a commitment to running a smooth and successful tournament.
Public Education Seminars
One of the goals of the Division is to educate non-members about the rules of tennis, particularly players at junior and club level. This is achieved through holding Rules Nights at interested clubs and associations. These are informal seminars where qualified TOAV representatives explain various rules of tennis, including etiquette and rules for non-umpired matches. The emphasis is on the more uncommon rules and regulations.
If you have an event in need of officials, or would like to arrange a Rules Night, please
contact the Division Secretary.
